From Cologne-Bonn airport

For public transport take the S19 train (direction Düren) to Köln Messe-Deutz, then change to the tram line 9 (direction Sülz) and exit at the stop ‘Lindenburg’. This will take about 45 minutes.
A taxi ride into Cologne is approx. 30 EUR and takes 15-20 minutes.

From Dusseldorf airport

Take the regional trains (direction Koblenz or Aachen) and exit at Köln Süd. Change here to the tram line 9 (direction Sülz) and get off at the stop ‘Lindenburg’. This will take about 70 minutes.

From Frankfurt airport

Take the ICE to Köln Messe-Deutz (direction Essen), then change to the tram line 9 (direction Sülz) and exit at the stop ‘Lindenburg’. ICE train tickets should be booked in advance!
This will take about 90 minutes.

From Cologne main station

Take the tram line 16 (direction Bonn/Bad Godesberg) or 18 (direction Klettenberg) and exit at Neumarkt. Change here to the tram line 9 (direction Sülz) and get off at the stop ‘Lindenburg’. This will take about 35 minutes.

Buying tickets

Ticket vending machines are available at the train and tram stations. Bank cards, cash and coins are accepted. To know which type of ticket to purchase, please use this webpage: http://tarif.vrsinfo.de/tbv/vrs/cgi. Search using the following keywords for the starting and ending stations:

  • Frankfurt airport = "Frankfurt Flughafen Bf, Frankfurt am Main"
  • Cologne-Bonn airport = "Köln/Bonn Flughafen Bf"
  • Cologne main station = "Dom / Hbf, Köln-Innenstadt"
  • Düsseldorf airport = "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal (S)"
  • Max-Planck Institute for Ageing = "Lindenburg (Universitätskliniken), Köln-Sülz" for tram 9, or "Geibelstr., Köln-Lindenthal" for Bus 146

Bus and tram tickets bought off board must be stamped when on board to be valid. You may be asked to show your photo ID (personlicher Ausweis) and/or the same credit card you used to buy the ticket (online ticket) when checked by a KVB/DB staff.

The 3* Hotel Albergo is located directly in the old center of Cologne, at the edge of Heumarkt. You can take the tram line 9 (tram stop ‘Heumarkt’) to get to the Max-Planck-Institute (exit tram stop ‘Lindenburg’).
